ABOUT THE SEARCH
Why is Western New England University conducting a presidential search?
The search has been initiated subsequent to the announcement of the resignation of President Robert E. Johnson as of August 1, 2025. This transition marks an important moment in ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app’s history to identify a leader who will guide the University’s next chapter.
What kind of leader is ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app seeking?
ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app is seeking a president who will uphold and advance our mission, embrace our culture of innovation and community, and champion the distinctive value of a ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app education. The ideal candidate will bring proven leadership, strategic vision, and a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing higher education today.
What is the timeline for the search?
The search officially launched in July 2025 with the goal of naming the next president by January 2026.
THE SEARCH PROCESS
Who is conducting the search?
The process is led by the Presidential Search Committee, a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, trustees, and alumni committed to a thorough and inclusive search.
Is a search firm involved?
Yes. ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app has engaged WittKieffer, a nationally recognized firm with expertise in higher education leadership recruitment, to assist in identifying and vetting qualified candidates.
Will the search be confidential or open?
To attract the strongest possible pool of candidates—many of whom are likely in current leadership roles—the search will be conducted with a high degree of confidentiality. Finalists may be invited to participate in confidential interviews and stakeholder meetings, as appropriate.
How will the final selection be made?
The Presidential Search Committee will recommend a group of finalists to the Board of Trustees. The Board will conduct final interviews and is responsible for appointing the next president.
CAMPUS & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
How can members of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app community participate in the search?
Community input is essential to the success of this process. Opportunities for engagement will include surveys and open forums designed to gather feedback on the University’s needs and the qualities desired in the next president.
Will the community be able to meet the finalists?
Depending on the level of confidentiality required during the process, finalists may be invited to campus to meet with select stakeholder groups. Any such visits will be communicated in advance.

All updates, announcements, and opportunities to engage will be shared on the Presidential Search website. This site will serve as the official source of information throughout the search.
When will the next president be announced?
The announcement of the new president is expected in early 2026, following final approval by the Board of Trustees.
